‘Party Animal’ toddler birthday party theme

My baby boy turned 2! We’ve exited the baby days and have entered full-force-toddlerhood. In planning my son’s second birthday party I wanted to pick a theme that was fun, festive, and represented his personality. My kid loves animals, so a safari/zoo/animal theme seemed like the perfect fit for his low-key family party. I saw lots of Pinterest inspiration for a “Party Animal” theme and wanted to put my own spin on it.

I am a firm believer that all good ideas start with a vision board (download my FREE Party Animal Vision Board), so I started the brainstorming process by searching Pinterest and some of my favorite places to shop (Target, Paper Source, Etsy, and local thrift stores) to find inspiration.

With my vision board complete, it was time to get shopping. Find my shopping list here.

I picked up a few other odds and ends at local thrift stores and used items I already had in my closet to finish it off. At the thrift store I found some plastic miniature animal figures, a rocking horse (who you may remember from my Restoring a Vintage Rocking Horse post), and some fun glassware. Using things from our closet I made mini-party-hats for all of his stuffed animals and the thrifted animal figures and set them up as festive party guests! That was my favorite finishing touch.

All in all, the party was a wild success! I am still in disbelief I have a TWO YEAR OLD. It feels like just yesterday he was cooing and scooting around the house. Now he proudly rawrs like a lion, stomps like an elephant, and gives the absolute best bear hugs. Sometimes our home feels like a zoo, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

With love,
